Welcome to dwilson.us

This is dwilson.us, the one stop portal for me, Dan Wilson. I am a Software Engineer in Denver, CO, and I currently work for Format Dynamics, an Internet start-up that specializes in formatting and monetizing printouts from the web. To see the software in action, print a web page from the Denver Post, or try the plugin that I wrote, which can be found on single blog posts on my own blog. I also am the owner of Liquid Mongoose, which produces web software. Liquid Mongoose created Transitly, which is an iPhone web application for mass transit timetables. Liquid Mongoose also created Paper Case, which is web software that turns web pages from Netflix, Picasa, and music.aol.com into printable, foldable paper disc cases. Most recently Liquid Mongoose released DVDLater, which allows Netflix users to save movies currently in theaters to their queue. I also have been working on a big side project for the last 2 years, but it is in stealth mode so check back for updates.

I live and breath technology, intentionally trying to suppress my coolness to strive toward being the alpha geek, or at least having a respectable amount of geek cred. I graduated from Metro State College of Denver in 2003 with a B.S. in Computer Science, with a minor in math. After college I worked for DataPlay, where I worked mostly with Java, MS SQL Server, and N.I. LabView. I then went on to the glamorous life as a consultant for Integral Data Solutions (acquired by Ascendant Technologies), where I worked on a variety of projects for a long list of clients in a wide array of industries. My area of specialization was in Enterprise Content Management and Business Process Management frameworks. I worked and traveled all over the country (Columbus, OH, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Holland, MI, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Costa Mesa, CA) but spent the majority of my on-site time in Chicago, IL. I also spent three months overseas in Sydney, Australia. After my wife became pregnant, I decided to settle into my current job in Denver, with no travel required.

Right now I do my non-work related programming and playing around on my PC, that I affectionately refer to as Mission Control. I try to keep the machine pretty clean by not installing too many programs, but my day-to-day routine uses MyEclipse, Firefox, Winamp, Picasa, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, Paint, net, Photoshop, Sling Player, Textpad, Filezilla, MSOffice, Skype, Yahoo Widgets, Putty, and iTunes. Gaming-wise, I use and am a fan of Steam as the manager, and enjoy Half-Life 2, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, HL2 Deathmatch, and Insurgency (HL2 mod). I use VirtualBox to run virtual machines, where I am prolific on programs I will install and use. I run a Windows XP SP3 I use for work and browser testing, Ubuntu Desktop and Server for my various LAMP needs, and a Windows 7 Beta out of morbid curiosity.

I live with my wife and infant daughter in Westminster, CO in the Bradburn neighborhood. When not in front of computer screens, I like to work out, run, play goalie for indoor soccer, ski, walk the dog/baby in stroller, bike, watch DVDs, play Wii, travel, go out to dinner, and go out for drinks.
